Saving Energy in your Kitchen

Saving Energy in your Kitchen

Your kitchen is the area of your house that consumes the most energy. Focussing on saving energy here will save you big time and it can be done by implementing just a few tricks. Let’s talk appliances: your refrigerator, oven, stove top, and dishwasher all take a hit on your energy bill every month. Our focus today is to teach you some hacks that will save you money in the long run.

The Refrigerator

This appliance is in constant use which means small changes can make big impacts. For example only open your fridge when actively taking out or putting in covered food (uncovered food produces moisture that makes the fridge work harder). Also, evaluate what size refrigerator is necessary for your family. Bigger is not always better.

The Oven

Keep it clean! We know it’s easier said than done but this way you can check on dinner without opening the oven door and losing 20% of the energy consumed. When possible it’s also a good idea to have food in the oven while it’s preheating to take advantage of all that energy. Now that we are on a roll…you can also turn it off a few minutes earlier to let the residual heat finish cooking and save more of that precious energy.

The Dishwasher

Believe it or not washing your dishes by hand is actually more wasteful and less energy efficient than using your dishwasher. However, this is only true if you run your dishwasher when full and on the eco friendly mode. Playing tetris with your plates is worth the energy saved, trust us! Take it a step further by allowing the dishes to air dry.
Now that you are a guru in planet friendly energy saving hacks spread the word to your friends and family. You’ll save them money and who doesn’t love that?
